Search engines look at our pages in this order: URL, slideshow title, dek, slide title, text. The subject and keywords in Web content should be in all five categories, keeping in mind the URL and title are most important.

Keywords in metadata are derived from research on what users search for. Keywords and search terms should be integrated into other areas of the content for the best possible rank.

Respect repeated words as writers put them there for rank. A keyword may be repeated once every 20-30 words. Plural word forms are considered different from singular word forms; kitchen, for example, isn’t the same word as kitchens. While rank and repeating are important, our focus is to get valuable, quality content to consumers; be natural.
